The Pedion tou Areos Race «In the Neighbourhoods of Athens» is our neighbourhood running race: it starts and finishes inside Pedion tou Areos, six minutes on foot from Ioulianou 50. The 10th, anniversary edition has been announced for Sunday 18 April 2027. There are two races, 5 and 10 kilometres, and a 1.3-kilometre kids' race inside the park. It is organised by the sports and cultural club «Athinaioi Dromeis» (Athens Runners) together with the Region of Attica. If you run, it is one of the few races in Athens where you walk to the start from the apartment.

Closed roads around the park

In 2026 the roads around the park were closed from 08:00 to 11:00: Mavrommateon, Evelpidon, Moustoxydi, Bousgou, Gyzi Square and Gyzi Street, and some smaller streets in the area. On Alexandras Avenue one lane towards Patission was closed. Ioulianou and Victoria station are not affected, so for our guests the morning runs as normal.

If you are not running: take your coffee down to Mavrommateon or into the park and cheer. The kids' race at 09:00 is the happiest part of the morning. By 11:00 everything is over and the park is the quiet neighbourhood park again.

Want to run?

Registrations open with the final announcement, through the «Athinaioi Dromeis» club. The race is open to everyone, and the 5 km is a good start for anyone who has never run a race. April in Athens has cool mornings, around 12–16 degrees. If you stay at Ioulianou 50, you have the advantage of waking up just before the start.
