When it takes place
The big day is always a Saturday in June. In recent years it has fallen on the second Saturday of the month. The festival with the other events starts about four weeks earlier; in 2026 from 17 May.
| Year | March date | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | Saturday 14 June | 20 years of Athens Pride. Festival from 16 May. |
| 2026 | Saturday 13 June | Slogan «It concerns you». Festival from 17 May. |
| 2027 | Saturday 12 June (estimate) | The organisers announce the date in spring. |
The programme of the day
The day is set up the same way every year. The times here are from 2026:
| Time | What happens in Syntagma |
|---|---|
| 12:00 | The community «village» opens: stalls of organisations, collectives and groups, with a DJ. |
| 17:00 | The main stage programme and the welcome speeches begin. |
| 18:00 | The groups gather in front of Parliament. A 25-piece brass band gets the rhythm going. |
| 19:00 | The Pride March sets off as the 30-metre flag is unfurled. Blocks, floats and drumming groups. |
| After the march | The march returns to the square and the big concert begins, until late at night. |
The march makes a loop through the central streets and ends back in Syntagma. In 2018 it went along Panepistimiou Street, past the University and the Academy, as you can see in the photos. Those who don’t walk stay in the square, where DJs play until the march returns.

Syntagma Square and the «village»
From midday the square fills with white tents. That is where you find the organisations of the LGBTQI+ community, parents’ groups, student groups and human rights organisations. In 2026 Amnesty International announced a hate-crime observatory there. They hand out leaflets, badges and small flags, and many people sit on the lawns of the square until the afternoon.
The stage is set up at the top end, towards Parliament. In 2026 the line-up included Black Unit, Dimitris Samolis, Chrysiida Gkagkouti and Matoula Zamani, hosted by Andromeda Balls and Christina Voulgari.

The events before the march
Athens Pride is not just one day. From mid-May until the march there are dozens of events around the city: film screenings, talks, exhibitions, parties and sports activities. In 2025, for example, there was the Glitter Run on 17 May and an open-air party on Pittaki Street in Psyrri on 11 June. The programme is published on the Athens Pride website in spring; many events are free.
A little history
The first Athens Pride took place in 2005 in Klafthmonos Square, with about 500 people. It was the first pride march to pass through the centre in broad daylight, in front of Parliament. Until 2016 the celebration stayed in Klafthmonos. In 2017 it moved to Syntagma for the first time and has grown every year since; in 2025 it turned twenty.
In February 2024 Greece voted for same-sex marriage, the first country with an Orthodox majority to do so. The march, however, keeps its character of demanding rights: the 2026 slogan was that «our rights are not negotiable».
Tips for the day: in June Syntagma is scorching at midday. Bring water and a hat, and come after 17:00 if you are not interested in the stalls. The march is friendly to children and families. In the crowd, keep your phone and wallet in front of you.
