Likely opening: Friday 27 November 2026, until 7 January. The park is a 6-minute walk from Ioulianou 50.
Every December Pedion tou Areos becomes the biggest Christmas village in Athens: trees dressed in thousands of lights, an ice rink, a carousel, wooden huts, concerts and light and laser shows. The Region of Attica has organised it since 2024 and entry is free. For us it is the village next door: the park starts at the end of Ioulianou, 430 metres from the apartment door. Last year it ran from Friday 28 November 2025 to Wednesday 7 January 2026. The 2026 dates have not been announced yet; based on last year, the village is expected to open on Friday 27 November and close on 7 January.

How to get there from Ioulianou 50

The park is at the end of Ioulianou, 430 metres from the apartment entrance. You need neither the metro nor a taxi.

  1. Ioulianou: leave the apartment and walk along Ioulianou towards the park, about 340 metres.
  2. Patission: cross the avenue at the level of Ioulianou.
  3. After Patission: carry on along Ioulianou for about 85 metres, to the edge of Pedion tou Areos.
  4. Inside the park: the village is not at the gate. Follow the lit paths and the crowd.

What to watch for

  • Parking: there is no public car park. The organisers suggest Victoria or Ambelokipi metro stations.
  • Toilets: the park's permanent ones and portable ones near the fountain and the «Kipos tis Gardenias» kiosk.
  • Pushchairs and wheelchairs: the area has obstacles such as cables and uneven drain covers. They get through, usually with help.
  • Rain: concerts are cancelled or rescheduled, and the announcement often comes late.
  • After 22:00: the village closes and the park empties quickly. Leave with the crowd towards Patission Street.

The best time: just before dark, around 17:00. You see the village in daylight and, half an hour later, the lights come on. On weekend mornings, from 10:00, there are the fewest people for small children and the shortest queues at the ice rink. On Friday and Saturday evenings the main alley fills up.

For the city's other festive events, the Syntagma tree, Kotzia Square, Technopolis and the SNFCC, see the guide Christmas in Athens.
