Release Athens is the biggest summer concert festival in Athens. From 2016 to 2026 it took place at Plateia Nerou in Faliro; in 2027 it moves to the Markopoulo Complex, on the Olympic grounds in Markopoulo, near the airport. So far three concerts have been announced: The Neighbourhood on Friday 25 June, Tokio Hotel on Wednesday 7 July at another new venue, ERGOSTASIO35, and Judas Priest on Wednesday 14 July. The programme will be filled in over the coming months. From Ioulianou 50 to Markopoulo you need about an hour by metro and festival bus. Below you will find the programme, the new venue, how to get there and back and what to know about tickets.

The Neighbourhood, from California, are coming after the big tour that followed their 2025 comeback album. Judas Priest return to Release, where they have played before. Tokio Hotel are presenting their new album. The festival announces names one by one from autumn to spring, so the table will grow.

The new venue: Markopoulo Complex

The Markopoulo Complex is on the Olympic grounds in Markopoulo, in East Attica, close to the Attiki Odos motorway and the airport. It has two stages. One is under a 4,000 m² covered tent, so you can come early for the support bands without roasting in the sun. There is a large car park for thousands of cars and festival buses from Koropi station.

The change is big for anyone staying in the centre. Plateia Nerou was in Faliro, with the tram next to it; Markopoulo takes longer, but it solves the heat and the space, which in recent years was no longer enough.

How to get there from Ioulianou 50

  1. Ioulianou 50 → Victoria station: 3 minutes on foot.
  2. Line 1 (green): towards Piraeus, two stops to Monastiraki, 8 minutes.
  3. Line 3 (blue): towards the Airport, to Koropi station, about 40 minutes. Board a train marked «Airport»; the others end at Doukissis Plakentias.
  4. Koropi → Markopoulo Complex: with the festival buses that leave from the station.

About an hour in total. For exact bus times, check the Release Athens website before each concert. By taxi from Ioulianou 50 the trip takes about 45 minutes without traffic, via Attiki Odos.

Getting back: the concerts end around midnight. Before you go, find out the time of the last festival bus and the last Line 3 train from Koropi to the centre. If you miss them, taxis are hard to find in Markopoulo right after the concert; book one in advance through an app or share with friends.

Tickets

Tickets are sold online at more.com and at its partner shops all over Greece. You can also pay in four interest-free instalments. There are VIP tickets too, with a raised area overlooking the stage and drinks; minors can only enter there with their own VIP ticket and a parent. At the entrance everyone gets a printed souvenir ticket.

A little history

Release Athens opened on 1 June 2016 at Plateia Nerou. In ten years it brought names such as Massive Attack, Pulp, Duran Duran and Kylie Minogue. The anniversary year of 2026 had 18 concert days, with Gorillaz, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, David Byrne, Pantera, Megadeth and Jean-Michel Jarre. 2027 is the first year away from the sea at Faliro.
