Green Park Athens: the All-Day Café-Restaurant Inside Pedion tou Areos

📅 24 April 2026 ⏱️ 7 min read ❤️ Kathy
Five minutes on foot from Ioulianou 50, deep inside the largest park in central Athens, sits a renovated neoclassical building that has quietly become one of the city's most loved all-day spots. Green Park Athens, at 22 Mavrommateon, runs as a café, restaurant and bar from morning until late — breakfast served until 13:00, lunch and brunch all afternoon, Mediterranean dinner in the evening and cocktails until 02:00.

Why it works — three words: location, history, flexibility

Green Park is one of the very few places in central Athens where you can sit surrounded by mature plane trees, in actual park air, without leaving the city. The building itself is a real Athenian neoclassical, sensitively restored, and its outdoor terrace looks straight out into Pedion tou Areos — flower beds, statues from the 1821 revolution, gravel paths and shade. It's the kind of place where you might come for a freddo espresso while reading in the morning, return for a proper midday meal, and end up there in the evening when it tilts into bistro-bar mode with music and well-made drinks.

For a guest staying around Victoria, the real benefit is flexibility. You don't have to choose between breakfast, coffee or dinner. The same address covers all three, with clean execution, a stable kitchen and Athens prices that read as fair for a central all-day venue of this calibre.

Where it is — and how to walk from Ioulianou 50

The address is 22 Mavrommateon Str, 104 34 Athens. You're at the southwest edge of Pedion tou Areos, on the side of the park that faces Victoria. From Ioulianou 50 the route is straightforward and pleasant: head east along Ioulianou, cross Patision at the traffic light, continue on Ipirou, and step into the park. Total distance is roughly 400 m · 5 minutes on foot, flat all the way.

Three ways to use it

☕ As a café

Specialty coffee, freddo espresso and the classic freddo cappuccino, hot chocolate, juices and smoothies. Wi-Fi, a generous terrace, plenty of nooks for a meeting or unhurried laptop work. The natural answer when you want a break from the apartment without dealing with city traffic.

🍳 As breakfast & brunch

The breakfast menu runs until 13:00. Eggs Benedict with mortadella or smoked salmon (€13–14), mushroom or sausage-feta omelettes (€10–12), fried eggs with bacon (€8), croque madame, and a praline-banana croissant. Proper brunch quality without leaving the area.

🍽️ As a restaurant

The all-day menu carries on with salads, pasta, burgers, grill plates and Mediterranean dishes. After dark the room shifts to a relaxed bistro-bar with wine, cocktails and music until 02:00. A solid pick for an unhurried dinner after a day exploring central Athens.

💶 Prices

What to order

  • Eggs Benedict with mortadella, gouda and hollandaise (€13) — the safe pick on the breakfast card; nice brioche, properly poached egg.
  • Mushroom omelette with parmesan (€10) — simple, well-executed, satisfying.
  • Croque madame with gouda and pepperoni (€11) — a favourite for guests who want something savoury but lighter.
  • Freddo espresso — one of the more consistent versions in the area, well chilled and balanced.
  • Cocktails from the evening list — there's a separate drinks card with classics and signature cocktails worth scanning.

When to visit

Late morning to early afternoon is the quietest window and probably the prettiest, especially on the outdoor terrace facing the park. Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 to 14:00 is brunch peak — book the day before if you want a guaranteed table outside. From 21:00 onwards the place takes on more of a bar feel and is well suited to a slow drink after a city walk.

Pair it with a stroll in the park

The unique advantage of Green Park is that it deposits you directly inside Pedion tou Areos. Before or after your meal, take fifteen minutes to walk through the rose garden, along the alley of busts of the heroes of 1821, and up to the central plaza with the bronze statue of Athena. It's one of the few genuinely green experiences central Athens still offers, and it's a few minutes' walk from the apartment.

An honest recommendation

When we send guests to Green Park

It is our default suggestion when someone needs a place that solves the «whose mood do we please?» problem: the couple where one wants brunch and the other only coffee, the meeting that might last an hour or four, or simply a normal dinner in a beautiful setting without taxis or metro changes. It is not a traditional taverna — if that is what you want, read our guide to Krouskas. But Green Park is probably the most thoughtfully run all-day venue in the immediate neighbourhood, and the most beautiful setting.
