Athens Combined Archaeological Sites Ticket: When It Is Worth It

📅 22 March 2026 ⏱️ 6 min read ❤️ Kathy
Many visitors hear about the Athens combined ticket without really knowing whether they need it. The idea is simple: instead of buying separate tickets for each archaeological site, you buy one package that covers several entries. Whether it is worth it depends on your plan, not just on the price.

What it usually includes

The package terms can change, so always check hhticket.gr or the Greek Ministry of Culture announcements before you buy. In most cases, the combined ticket covers one entry to the main archaeological sites in the centre of Athens within a specific period. The sites most often included in this type of package are:

Acropolis & slopes

The main site that usually determines whether the package is worth it. Check the timed-entry rules carefully.

Ancient Agora

Usually includes the Stoa of Attalos, the small museum, and the Temple of Hephaestus.

Roman Agora

A small but useful stop near Monastiraki, with the Tower of the Winds as the main point of interest.

Hadrian's Library

A short visit between Monastiraki and the Roman Agora, easy to include on the same walk.

Temple of Olympian Zeus

A large open site near Zappeion and Hadrian's Arch, which you can also see from the street.

Kerameikos

An ancient cemetery with a small museum and a much quieter atmosphere than the Acropolis.

Aristotle's Lykeion

A smaller and quieter site, close to the Byzantine Museum and the War Museum.

On paper, the package can look like a good deal. In practice, it only pays off if you will actually visit enough of those sites within the validity period.

The arithmetic in practice

The theoretical saving can be misleading, because few visitors see every site. The better question is more practical: how many sites will you visit without rushing?

Acropolis only

If the Acropolis is your only certain visit, choose the ticket that gives you the best timed entry. The package is not essential.

Acropolis + 1 site

If that second site is the Ancient Agora or Kerameikos, the package starts to make sense.

Acropolis + Ancient Agora

This is the most natural combination for a first visit. Here the package is often worth it, as long as it does not interfere with the Acropolis time slot you want.

Acropolis + 3 sites

If you are staying three or more days and you genuinely enjoy archaeological sites, this is usually the most sensible option.

As a general rule, if you plan to visit the Acropolis and at least one or two other major sites, consider the package. If the Acropolis is the only firm plan, choose the ticket that gives you the timed entry you want.

What to watch for

First. The Acropolis may require timed entry. If you want a specific morning slot in a busy month, make sure the package allows you to secure it in the way you need.

Second. Each site is usually covered for one entry. Keep the ticket until you have finished all your visits.

Third. The validity period follows the terms of the package in force at the time. Check whether it starts from purchase or from first use.

Fourth. It does not include the Acropolis Museum, the National Archaeological Museum, the Benaki Museum, or other museums. It applies only to the archaeological sites listed in the package.

Where to buy it

Buy it either from the official platform or from a ticket office at one of the archaeological sites. The Ancient Agora ticket office on Adrianou is often calmer than the Acropolis entrance, but that can change depending on the day and hour. Ask clearly for the combined ticket, not just for an Acropolis ticket.

On hhticket.gr, look for the combined or package option and read carefully what is included before you pay.

Free entry and reduced tickets

  • There are free and reduced tickets for certain age groups and visitor categories.
  • You may need identification, a student card, or other supporting documents depending on the category.
  • Official free-entry days are announced separately and may still involve timed-entry rules for the Acropolis.
  • If you qualify for free entry, the combined ticket may not be useful to you at all.

The practical decision

If you will only visit the Acropolis, buy the ticket that gives you the best time slot. If you plan to see the Acropolis together with the Ancient Agora, Roman Agora, Kerameikos, or other included sites, the combined ticket is worth serious consideration. Before paying, check three things: what the package includes today, how many days it stays valid, and how it handles Acropolis timed entry.
